DIY wedding invitations and favours

I'm getting married next year and we're having a DIY wedding in a barn. The setting is a beautiful croft in the Scottish countryside. There's a great blog entry here at Love My Dress with loads of pictures of a previous wedding held there. It's provided plenty of inspiration! I've also got heaps ideas from Pinterest. I've spent way to much time on there though - it's incredibly addictive!

As I've had a couple of weeks off work, I decided to get organised and crack on with some of the DIY jobs for the wedding. The first thing to do was the invitations. We're on a really tight budget so decided that we would make them ourselves rather than spending a huge amount of money on them. We used this free template which suits us perfectly. All we had to do then was print it onto some pretty textured blue card and pop them in recycled brown envelopes. Including all of the materials, the cost was around £25 for 100 invitations which works out at just 25p per invitation. Not bad!

For wedding favours, we wanted to give our guests something a bit different so decided to make little packets of wildflower seeds. I found a tutorial for origami seed packets and made some up with purple and blue origami paper and stamped them with our initials. Overall, these cost around £35 for 100, 35p per favour. They're so much more interesting than chocolates too - I really like the idea of a wildflower meadow being planted in celebration!

Little Cat

This little guy was one of my first ever proper creations. He was a present for my little sister who promptly lost him. He was pretty simple to crochet and was finished off with felt and googly eyes. Isn't he cute...
